A lot of you have been asking for an update on DeMarcus Cousins , the Alabama big man who continues to list UW as a school of interest.
So here it is, a story I was able to write after talking late last week with his high-school coach, Otis Hughley.
Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, a few things got cut out of the original story for space reasons.
Among those were a couple of paragraphs were I noted how Hughley said Cousins was impressed by how UW coach Lorenzo Romar traveled to Alabama to watch him play two weeks ago. Romar watched Cousins on a Monday on the day after UW had won at Stanford, which caused Romar to miss his coach's radio show.
"You take that kind of time out after you just played Stanford, you get home and then you get on the road again to come see a kid, that is more than duly noted,"
Hughley said. "That's an expression of tremendous interest, I would say."
Hughley said Cousins has no favorites among what are his five finalists --- Memphis, UW, North Carolina State, Rice and Kansas State. LSU has also been getting into the picture recently, though Hughley indicated Cousins' interest in the Tigers isn't quite at the level of the other five.
The wild card, as noted in the story, is whatever happens with Mike Davis.
Hughley indicated not much was likely to change for a while as he said Cousins plans to make some visits after the season and then sign sometime in the spring period, which begins April 11.
I think the conventional wisdom is that it's still a longshot that Cousins ends up at UW. But as noted in the story, Hughley said it can't be discounted. Sounds like we'll just have to wait a few months and see.
