| Anderson, Ubaka Honored by Pac-10
BERKELEY - Ryan Anderson, who leads Cal in both scoring and rebounding this season, has been voted to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team, the conference office announced Monday. In addition, Anderson and senior guard Ayinde Ubaka were chosen honorable mention All-Pac-10.
The 6-10 Anderson is the top scoring freshman in the league, contributing 15.9 ppg for the Golden Bears. He also ranks fifth in the conference in rebounding with 7.8 rpg, which rates second among the Pac-10 tournament's first-year players. Anderson scored a career-high 25 points vs. Santa Clara, and he snared a personal-best 16 rebounds at DePaul.
In November, Anderson was named MVP of the Great Alaska Shootout when he led Cal to the tournament championship with wins over Marshall, Hawaii and Loyola Marymount. During Pac-10 action, he had a high of 22 points at Oregon State and added 21 points at UCLA. In addition, Anderson has connected on 50 three-pointers this season - the second-highest freshman total in school history.
Ubaka, who was a member of the All-Pac-10 team last season, is averaging 13.6 ppg and 4.4 apg this year. He scored a season-high 26 points at Stanford Jan. 3, helping the Bears to a 67-63 win at Maples Pavilion - the Bears' first victory at Stanford since 1993. Ubaka also grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds in a home win over Oregon, and he produced his first double-double with 10 points and 11 assists against Furman.
Entering this week's Pac-10 Tournament, Ubaka ranks 22nd in school history with 1,148 points, while he is fourth in career assists (407) and fifth in career three-pointers (152).
Both Ubaka and Anderson were voted to the second-team all-district squad by the National Association of Basketball Coaches last week.
