Peach Jam: Breaking down the prospects

We spent a good part of the day charting the goings on with the recruitment of a number of players at the Nike Peach Jam.

Recruiting news

The ramifications of Wake Forest's pick up of five star prospects Al-Farouq Aminu and Tony Woods is already making waves with the class of 2009. Five-star junior DeMarcus Cousins said he noticed and is now listing the Demon Deacons high on his list.

"That really caught my eye," DeMarcus Cousins said. "Those two are my boys."

UAB still remains high on his list. North Carolina is in the mix. So are Kentucky, Texas, Florida and Memphis.

Louisiana Select big man Storm Warren is down to Florida, LSU, Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Monroe, Southern Cal and UCLA. He claims offers from all of the programs and will trim the list down further after the summer.

There was some scuttlebutt coming into this week's activities that Chicago guard Matthew Humphrey would be announcing his decision in North Augusta. The four-star wing said he will not be announcing his decision at the Peach Jam after all.

After finishing the summer with Florida based Team STAT, 6-foot-8 forward Mike Davis is taking his game to South Kent (Conn.). He'll certainly be followed by Maryland, West Virginia, Illinois, Clemson and Providence while up in New England.

Florida point guard Miguel Paul is claiming offers from Miami, Tennessee and Oregon while Clemson, Georgetown, St. John's and Maryland are also charting the 6-foot point guard from Team STAT.

Class of 2009 big man Keith Gallon is leaving Texas after the summer and heading to Oak Hill Academy. The mammoth center from the Houston said he has offers from Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M and Arizona. Florida is also involved, he said.

Since his stellar performance at the NBPA Top 100 camp, Noel Johnson said he has heard from UCLA, UNLV and Clemson. The trio joins Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan State and Ohio State.

Memphis area forward Ferrakohn Hall rattled off a list of Tennessee (offer), Georgia Tech, Memphis, Ohio State, Miami, Florida State and Florida.

Teammate Gentry Hines, a speedster from Raleigh Egypt High School in Memphis said UTEP, Ole Miss and Miami are showing early interest.

At the end of the summer, Georgia guard Tanner Smith will make three official visits. Hosting the 6-foot-5 guard from Norcross (Ga.) Wesleyan is Auburn, Georgia and St. Joseph's.

Bouncy Georgia forward Travis Leslie has recently heard from LSU, Rice, Virginia Commonwealth and Minnesota. Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee and Cincinnati are also interested, he said.

Kansas State, George Washington, Texas, Clemson, North Carolina, Florida, Oklahoma and Tennessee were all yielded up by 6-foot-8 wing Wesley Witherspoon, a Rivals150 prospect.

Class of 2009 big man Daniel Orton said he has offers from Kansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Wake Forest and Arkansas. Connecticut, Maryland and Illinois are also on the list, he said.

Donte Hill, a 6-foot-4 wing from Norfolk Collegiate, opened some eyes with his play against California Supreme. The Boo Williams player said Virginia Tech has offered while Wake Forest and Ole Miss are involved.

Marshawn Powell, a star for Boo Williams, said he has no offers at the moment but Clemson, Richmond, Kansas State and Oklahoma are interested.

All eyes on you

Team Melo guard Sean Mosley had Leonard Hamilton, Frank Haith and an assistant from Maryland watching him against the Illinois Warriors. Gary Williams rolled through in the evening.

Thad Matta, Paul Hewitt, Jeff Lebo, Dave Leitao and assistants from Alabama and North Carolina all took in JaMychal Green's performance against the New York Gauchos.

Bruce Pearl and a pair of Duke assistants sat courtside to see Leslie McDonald, a five-star 2009 guard in action in the morning. Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings was on hand in the evening.

A long line of big-timers came out to see the California Supreme-Boo Williams 16 and under game. Anthony Grant (VCU), Leitao, Roy Williams, Ben Howland, John Thompson, Tim Floyd, Blaine Taylor (Old Dominion), Matt Doherty (SMU) and Jeff Bzdelik were counted as the head coaches. Assistants included Arizona, Oregon, Duke, Iowa State, Louisville, UNLV, Florida and Notre Dame.

Prospects in the game included 2009 Boo Williams studs Deshawn Painter, Marshall Powell and intriguing forward Dante Hill. For California Supreme, Jeremy Tyler (one of the elite 2010 prospects in the nation), Tyler Lamb, Gary Franklin and others dot the roster.
