Rivals.com FAB 50
There were only two new teams in this week’s Rivals.com FAB 50 rankings, although there could have been more.
Eight teams from last week’s listings in all tasted defeat, but five of them lost to opponents that also are in the FAB 50 and another lost to a team it had beaten earlier in the season.
Previous No. 45 Montverde Academy of Florida suffered its fifth loss of the season last week, this one to Dr. Phillips of Orlando in the semifinals of its own tournament. The other to drop out was previous No. 47 Starkville of Mississippi, which fell to Tupelo. Those two have been replaced this week by Klein Collins of Texas and Oxford of Mississippi.
Klein Collins goes in after a 54-47 win over Klein Forest, which also is in the FAB 50 and did not drop completely out following the defeat. Oxford has now taken over the No. 1 ranking in its state and has just two losses overall.
One of the teams actually lost twice to higher-ranked opponents. That was Santa Margarita of Rancho SM, Calif. The Eagles lost first to No. 8 Mater Dei of Santa Ana in a league game and then were defeated by No. 19 Dominguez of Compton at the Nike Extravaganza.
Another team that lost also moved up in this week’s rankings. That would be No. 12 Norcross of Georgia, which is the defending champ in that state, and went up from No. 13 in this week’s FAB 50 even though it lost to No. 5 Oak Hill Academy. That rise also was due to previous No. 8 St. Patrick of New Jersey losing to Fairfax of Los Angeles at the Nike Extravaganza plus previous No. 11 St. Raymond’s of the Bronx losing to No. 7 Rice of New York.
